Krubb is a mobile app concept developed with “design for blends” approach (combination of two or more input spaces, based on metaphor). It helps young people to eat healthy food that they prepared on their own and to motivate them the app includes gamification elements with points and levels system. Krubb offers also a Meal planner for those who want to organise their weekly meals and plan their budgets (buying particular products that will be needed for a recipe).
The concept of the app was a group project during the course Designing for user experience (2017), part of HCI Master program in Umeå University. We were required to think about appropriate blends, to develop and test a prototype.
We used two metaphors:
We created two personas as our target group. Both of them are young people, living on their own and with different backgrounds and experience both in cooking and mobile apps usage.
Each member of the group provided sketches for a potential UI. After a short discussion we decided on what to focus for the low-fi prototype.
Part of my responsibility was to create a user flow which helped us to organise the information and how the user will navigate between the screens.
As part of the research we did several semi-structured interviews with young people, living away from their parents and students. The next step was to do user tests with our low-fi prototype, which helped us to identify several visual problems, like unclear icons and unrecognisable buttons.
After the improved hi-fi version of the prototype we did more user tests and received positive feedback on the features of the app. LINK for the prototype.
