Umeå Wheels is a startup company that aims to motivate people in Umeå to use and re-use second hand bikes. The company buys, sells, rents and repairs bikes. My role was to create the brand identity for the startup, design their website and interactive web platform.
Designing the logo was the first task that I got after joining the team. In the beginning the name of the company was Umeå Bikes therefore the logo should include a bike. Later, it turned out there was a problem with the name and it was changed to Umeå Wheels. The team decided to keep the bike in the logo in order to be clear for the end user what the company is about.
The main target group was international students that come every semester in Umeå and are looking for affordable second-hand bike. It was important for the company to be seen as friendly and approachable. I developed a set of brand guidelines that correspond to the company’s mission. Part of the branding were also some marketing materials like business cards and t-shirts.
I started the design of the website will some sketches and basic low-fi prototype. When the information and the different sections were discussed with the client, I designed and prepared fully working high-fy prototype. The website includes the main colors and uses circle elements to remind of movement and wheels of course. LINK to the prototype.
The only requirement for the web platform was to be extremely simple in order to be used on different devices. It has two modes:
